There are alot of unanswered questions about humans, earth, universe and life. But when it comes to my life.. most important to me would be the mystery around . ofcourse.. food!
When I was in 6th grade and my teacher very animatedly taught us about the evolution of man, she said, one day the cave man accidentally dropped a piece of meat in the fire and the next day it tasted much better!! Well, I am sure it was a eureka moment, but when I was told the story, I could only picture a succulent lamb chop, little charred on the outside but cooked to perfection preserving its original flavour. Only few of you would understand me, because now cooking has become all about adding zillion spices, herbs, gravies etc.
But the real mystery to discover about food is in its taste varying in the simplest forms. Lets say, Shrimp, (favourite), cooked for less than five minutes in garlic and crushed pepper is simply scrumptious! Ever wondered why green olives go well only with few white wines or who discovered the change in taste of white wine with dried prunes! Even simpler.. Strawberry dipped in chocolate!! hmmmmmmmm....These are little mysteries about food, one can enjoy and wonder! :p
Here i am going to leave you with a short mystery...
I was in Venice and it suddenly started to rain heavily. Venice, being what it is, was full of tourists in its narrow lanes. We ran with the crowd and suddenly on a rounded corner saw a huge line for what looked like a bakery -cum-sandwich shop. Curious, zi took something....let's call it a s/w.. alot of layers of cold cut meat in a rounded bread with layers of different cheese, little bit of a "Mysterious dressing" and i think a bit of pickle as well! Lightly toasted so as not to hurt your palate but warm enough for the weather... and Voila! That was something ive been creaming about in the past 3 years.. it sounds simple .. but trust me it was different. I don't know what its called ( didn't get a chance to ask), but i faintly remmber the shop..
Anybody going to Venice, now knows what to do.. Sniff along the cramped lanes till you reach that rounded corner with the magical shop!!

Ending with an Italian quote ( for venice) on the mysterious evolution in life and food-
"Rice is born in water and must die in wine "
Lots of good food,
Shaguna
